ANGUS Introduces New Developmental Additive for Acid Gas Removal

ANGUS leads research efforts to help improve the purity, quality and value of gas and liquid product streams

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. – MAY 25, 2016 – ANGUS Chemical Company, a leading manufacturer and marketer of nitroalkanes and their derivatives, today announced MMAMP (Mono-Methyl 2-Amino-2-Methyl-1-Propanol), a new developmental additive for acid gas removal. MMAMP helps customers effectively separate unwanted contaminants or agents from fluid streams in the elimination of acid gas.

Amines are frequently used as an absorption medium during acid gas removal. Removing acid gas efficiently requires an amine that has high acid gas absorption capacity and rate, low heat of absorption/desorption, low vapor pressure, low hydrocarbons absorption, gas selectivity, non-corrosivity, thermal stability and solubility. Currently, MMAMP is the only amine that meets all these criteria.

Compared to other commonly used amines for acid gas removal, MMAMP has a clear advantage of carbon dioxide absorption capacity and energy requirements. Studies show that MMAMP increases carbon dioxide absorption by 52 percent, and decreases heat of absorption per mole of carbon dioxide by 18 percent when used as a drop-in replacement for MEA (monoethanolamine).
